Coping skills cards are a simple and fun way to help children learn appropriate and effective coping skills. Teaching our children coping skills is one of the most important things we can do for them as parents. When used effectively, coping skills can help children manage difficult or stressful situations, ease anxiety, manage sadness, and help them learn to self-regulate their emotions, which can be useful in reducing the intensity and frequency of tantrums. Additionally, these are skills we want to teach our children so that the carry out self-care into adulthood so that they are better prepared to manage stress and whatever else life throws their way.

These free printable coping skills cards are perfect for your child to take with them to school, out in public, or to keep at home in a drawer or coping skills box. They are small enough to be easily accessible when needed and have a variety of ideas to use for coping skills. The last page includes four blank cards so that you can work with your child to identify coping skills that are unique and effective for them personally.
You can print these out as they are or laminate them for durability.
Supplies
- Coping Skills Cards
- Paper cutter
- Hole punch
- Small binder ring
- Laminator (optional)
Tutorial
Print off the Coping Skills Cards either in color or black and white ink. Personalize the last four cards to fit your child’s needs. Cut the cards, laminate them if you prefer and then cut them again. Then simply punch a hole in the top corner and attach the small binder ring.
Now your child can easily look through their cards and find a coping skill that will work for them in the situation as needed.

Thanks for your comment! It can seem that way, although tantrums typically result from a function, even if it is hard to identify it sometimes.

I used to make these for a student I worked with. It really helped him out and, after a few weeks, he was able to internalize some of the strategies without referencing the cards.
