Traveling to Paris, France had been at the top of my bucket list since I was a young girl. However, while there, we ended up taking a quick day trip to nearby Versailles. I was blown away by the contrast of simple, natural beauty and grandoise elegance found around the charming town. Since we’ve returned home, I’ve been experiencing some serious wanderlust to visit Versailles again and explore everything there is to offer. Until then, I’m sharing twenty breathtaking photos to inspire you to visit Versailles.
Just an hour by train from Paris, Versailles has it all. From the magnificent Palace of Versailles, the sprawling gardens, and rich history around the town, this gorgeous city has it all.
Versailles was famously once home to the Kingdom of France. It’s most notable residents, King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette reformed the former royal hunting lodge into the extravagant Chateau de Versailles. Visitors to the palace can stand just feet away from the beds of the king and queen, walk down the Hall of Mirrors, and stand in the famous War Room, where many historical treaties have taken place.

However, visiting Versailles would not be complete without getting lost in the luxurious gardens. The fountains, orangery, and mazes are breathtaking. In fact, guests can easily spend hours at the Palace of Versailles and still leave without seeing everything there is, both inside and out.
Although known for the golden palace, Versailles is a beautiful city with lots to do outside of the royal gates. For instance, just minutes away, small shops, restaurants, and markets line the flowery, cobblestone streets. If you’re traveling to Paris, don’t forget to visit Versailles. It’s an incredible experience you won’t want to miss!

Wow! Amazing pictures and full of history! I would love to visit there. My dream trip is to England and see where Downtown Abbey was filmed. I will get there!

That sounds beautiful as well! Paris is a quick one hour or so flight from London, maybe you can fit them both in on your dream trip!

These photos are stunning!! We took our teens on their first overseas trip (and mine!) in 2017 and visited Amsterdam and Paris. We took a day trip out to Versailles. It’s an amazing place to visit. And so much history! We didn’t have near enough time to wander through all the parts of the gardens and The Queen’s Hamlet was on my must-see, which we made it out to visit, but I would have loved to have lingered there!

That sounds like such an unforgettable family trip! I agree with you, we did a day trip from Paris to Versailles, but I could have spent a few more days there and been completely happy exploring everything there is to see!

Christina says
Thanks so much! The gardens are stunning, aren’t they? Next time we visit, I think we will start with the gardens and end with inside the palace. That seems to be the way to beat the crowds inside!

Gorgeous photos! I think the one with the wisteria is probably my favourite. I really want visit Versailles

Thank you! I think it is my favorite too, although I’m a little biased. We happened upon that doorway in the town of Versailles, but there were dozens of places like it. It was straight out of a painting!
