Halloween is almost here! Up here in Alaska, that means snow is coming (scary)! But I’m not about to let that ruin one of my favorite holidays. With the colder weather and upcoming festivities, this is the perfect excuse to grab that PSL and get crafting. Halloween is the only time I will even entertain the idea of spiders but this Halloween spiderweb is just cute enough to earn a place in my home.

Tutorial
First, paint your canvas. I used silver metallic paint but you can be creative and use whatever color you’d like here. I began with regular paintbrushes but ended up using a roller for the final coat to give it a more weathered look. Once your paint is dry, line up your spiderweb cutout and trace it how you’d like it. The one I used is actually a place mat but it was exactly what I was looking for.
After that, decide where you want the web to lay on the canvas and work from there. Instead of going for the middle, I started tracing at the upper right hand corner to give the spider some room at the bottom.
Next, paint your web. If you like the look of just the paint, you can add some touches of glow-in-the-dark paint for a cool Halloween look or stop here and skip the next step.
Ultimately, I decided I wanted the web to be 3D so I cut small pieces of Halloween spiderweb and used the hot glue gun to overlay them onto my painted web. This part was a little tedious as you have to be careful when separating the web and line everything up just right, but in the end, it turned out great.
Next, turn the canvas around and mark where you’d like the lights to shine through your spiderweb. I used a drill but a crafting knife would also work. Just be careful not to puncture all the way through or you risk catching the web.
Then use the hot glue gun to secure the LED lights into place.
Next, and this is optional, screw a small piece of wood onto the back of the canvas to hold the light box in. Now this can help keep it up while your Halloween spiderweb craft is standing. From the picture below, it may look as if the wood is hanging off of the sides of the canvas, but this is just a weird angle.
After that, add wire to the back of your spider. For this one, the wire slips through easily.
Then, simply punch the wire through the canvas where you want the spider to stand and tie it tightly using the mending plate. However, if you are using a spider with smaller legs, the wire and mending plate may not be needed. In that case, the hot glue gun may be a better option.
Finally, your DIY Halloween spiderweb is complete! All in all, this craft can be a little time consuming but is worth it when you can use it again year after year. What’s your favorite part about Halloween? Drop a line or a link below!
